He had been logging on to Apple Insults Inc - one of 5,000 chat rooms on video group chat service Paltalk - which encourages users to abuse each other as much as possible.
Gregory's internet pals said they watched in horror as he took just 30 seconds to kill himself at his home in Wallington, South London.
An administrator pleaded with UK users to call 999 but by the time police arrived at 3.36am, Gregory was already dead.
At his inquest in 2007, coroner Michael Gwynne called for the "insult chat rooms" to be banned, saying: "The death of Kevin Whitrick should not be allowed to pass without someone seeing if it is possible to stop chat rooms of this nature being on the internet." But Kevin's family said after the inquest he didn't think the chat rooms had played a part in his brother's death, but he felt they should still be monitored.
Paltalk is free to use but users can pay around £15 for a better quality video and the chance to appear in up to five different chats simultaneously.
